FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the questions readers ask us most often about Shop.app, Shop Pay, and the Shop ecosystem.

Is Shop.app free to use?

Yes. Shop is free to download and free to use. There are no subscriptions, no transaction fees on the buyer side, and no in-app ads beyond the natural promotional content from merchants you follow.

Does Shop.app work outside the United States?

Yes — Shop is available in most countries where Shopify operates, including Canada, the UK, Australia, EU member states, and many others. Some features (Shop Pay Installments via Affirm, certain carrier integrations) are restricted to North America.

Can I use Shop.app without saving a card?

Yes. You can browse the marketplace, follow merchants, and track parcels without ever adding a payment method. Shop Pay only activates when you choose to use it at checkout.

Is my card data safe with Shop Pay?

Card data is tokenized — replaced with a meaningless string that can only be charged through Shopify's checkout. Raw card numbers are not stored on your device or shared with individual merchants. Shopify is PCI-DSS Level 1 certified.

Where is Shop Pay accepted?

Shop Pay works at any Shopify-powered storefront where the merchant has enabled it — that's the majority of Shopify sites today. It does not work at Amazon, eBay, Etsy, or non-Shopify retailers.

How do Shop Pay Installments work?

Eligible orders ($50–$20,000) can be split into four interest-free payments, due every two weeks. Larger orders may qualify for 3-, 6-, or 12-month financing through Affirm with interest. A soft credit check is performed; on-time payments incur no fees.

What happens if a merchant doesn't ship my order?

Shop Pay processes payment but does not act as the seller. For shipment failures, contact the merchant first via Shop's chat. If unresolved, file a chargeback with your credit card issuer — Shop's transaction history makes this straightforward.

Can I track packages from non-Shopify stores?

Yes. Shop's tracking inbox can pull shipping confirmations from Amazon, retailers, and direct carriers, either by forwarding emails to [email protected] or granting Shop read-only access to your email.

How do I delete my Shop.app account?

Open the app → Settings → Account → Delete Account. You'll receive a confirmation email; once confirmed, your account and saved data are removed within 30 days. You can also request a full data export under GDPR or CCPA before deleting.

Does Shop.app have ads?

Shop displays sponsored merchants and product placements in the discovery feed, similar to most marketplaces. There are no full-screen interstitials, video pre-rolls, or third-party advertising networks running inside the app.

Is Shop.app the same as Shopify?

No, but they share a parent company. Shopify is the e-commerce platform that powers individual storefronts. Shop is Shopify's consumer mobile app — a unified front door to those storefronts plus a checkout wallet and tracking inbox.

Can I use Shop.app on a tablet or PC?

There is a Shop web experience at shop.app, and Shop Pay works at checkout on any device. The full app experience (notifications, biometric unlock, marketplace feed) is iOS and Android only.

How does Shop's carbon offset work?

Shopify funds verified carbon-removal projects sufficient to offset the shipping emissions of every Shop Pay order. Buyers don't pay extra; the cost is absorbed by Shopify. Offsets are independently audited.

What is the difference between Shop, Shop Pay, and Shop Cash?

Shop is the mobile app. Shop Pay is the accelerated checkout wallet. Shop Cash is occasional reward credit issued by Shopify or merchants for promotions — usable as account credit on future Shop Pay orders.

Is Shop.app affiliated with Shopify?

Yes — Shop.app is owned and operated by Shopify Inc. This review site, Shop.app Review Hub, is independent editorial coverage and is not affiliated with Shopify.
