Step 1 — Install the app

Download Shop: Shopping Assistant from the official iOS App Store or Google Play. Confirm the publisher is listed as Shopify Inc.; this is the only legitimate version. The app is free, contains no subscription, and does not display intrusive third-party ads.

Step 2 — Verify your account

Shop pairs to your phone number and email. The first time you open the app, it will ask you to confirm both via a one-time code. If you have ever used Shop Pay at a Shopify store before — even once — your saved details will reappear here, because Shop and Shop Pay share the same underlying account.

Step 3 — Add a payment method

Shop accepts most major credit and debit cards, plus Apple Pay and Google Pay. Card data is encrypted and tokenized in transit; the app never stores your raw card number on the device, only a token that can be used for future Shopify checkouts.

Tip

Enable biometric unlock (Face ID or fingerprint) the moment you finish setup. Without it, anyone holding your phone could authorize a Shop Pay purchase if your phone is unlocked.

Step 4 — Browse and follow stores

The home tab is a personalized feed driven by your follows and your in-app browsing. You can search by brand, by category (fashion, beauty, home, tech), or by specific products. Following a store adds it to your For You feed and surfaces its sales and drops as push notifications.

Step 5 — Check out with Shop Pay

  1. Tap a product in Shop or open a Shopify-powered store in your phone's browser.
  2. At checkout, choose Shop Pay.
  3. Enter the 6-digit code Shop sends to your phone (or biometrics, if enabled).
  4. Confirm address, shipping speed, and payment.
  5. Receive a confirmation push within seconds.

Average checkout time, from product page to confirmation, is roughly four to seven seconds once everything is set up.

Step 6 — Track every package

Shop creates an automatic tracking entry for every Shop Pay order. For purchases placed outside the Shopify network, you can either forward your shipping email to [email protected] or grant Shop read-only access to your email so it can detect carriers automatically. Once a parcel is registered, the tracking inbox shows live carrier status from USPS, UPS, FedEx, DHL, and most major regional carriers.

Step 7 — Manage post-purchase events

  • Returns & refunds — handled by the merchant, but Shop links you directly to each store's return portal.
  • Reorders — saved purchase history makes one-tap repeat orders trivial.
  • Reviews — leave product feedback that's visible to other Shop users.
  • Delivery offsets — every order's carbon footprint is automatically offset by Shopify's shipping initiative.

Behind the scenes — what's actually happening

Under the hood, Shop is a thin client over Shopify's commerce APIs. When you tap a product, the app fetches inventory, pricing, and shipping rates from the merchant's Shopify storefront in real time. When you check out, your tokenized payment is processed through Shopify Payments (powered by Stripe in most regions). The merchant never sees your raw card data — they receive a charge confirmation and the order details only.

The bottom line

Shop.app is genuinely a single front door to thousands of small merchants. Once you've set it up, it stays out of the way until you actually need it.
